Reserve MD88B ATL- Really how bad is it?
Indoc in a few weeks. With the high number of ATL MD88 slots it's looking like that's what I can expect. For those who are actually on the equipment, how much are you getting used on reserve?

A year ago I was used very close to 100% of my available time. Very little short call but I always had a trip when I was on reserve. The good side of M88 is that there is such HATE for it that seniority happens in crazy fashion. In one year you will be able to hold holidays and weekends off.

Retirements pick up in February so current information might not be useful.
That said I get used every day. Luckily for me, the trips are mostly commutable depending on your definition. Starts are usually between 10 am and 1 pm and finish between 6 pm and 8 pm on day four. Once a month I’ll get a 10 pm finish. I’ve done 4 am short call three times during each of the last three months. I mostly fly four day trips with two to four legs each day. Lots of 11 to 12 hour overnights. Some trips will have you finish around midnight on day one, then 4:30 am show 30ish hours later.
As far as scheduling goes, they are very nice and treat you like a real human. It’s nothing like reserve at a regional. I usually know the trip I’m doing the day prior to starting a reserve block. If there’s no trip, I usually get day one off, followed by 4 am short call. Every short call I’ve been used by 6 am.
Let me know if you need more information, happy to share

If only I hadn't missed the March AE by 5 freaking days! Now I don't convert till January 2018. Booohooo. ;p
Airbus training can't get here fast enough.
Enjoy the seniority rise - and lack of air conditioning.

Coming from the RJ you will probably think the technology on the '88 is pretty archaic. Me, coming from a KC-135A model that was built before I was born............the technology was pretty great!
