Surface gets bad reviews - Consumer Reports
Forget about giving detailed FCRs just send this article in...
SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - The breakage rate for Microsoft Corp’s (MSFT.O) Surface devices is significantly worse than for other manufacturers' laptops and tablets, Consumer Reports said, adding that it was removing its "recommended" designation for Surface products. Microsoft Surface devices fail on reliability: Consumer Reports | Reuters |
Welp this just means we are getting refurbed Surface 4's...

Stick a fork in it.

Microsoft disputes the study ....................... and I agree with Microsoft.
From the article: "The non-profit publication surveyed 90,000 tablet and laptop owners and found that an estimated 25 percent of those with Microsoft Surface devices would be presented with “problems by the end of the second year of ownership," There is no way, and I mean not even a remote possibility that only 25% of users would have trouble in two years. So Microsoft is correct - the study is bogus. :D Scoop |

I dare Apple to try and match the Surface's 6 minute spinning circle every time you wake it up.
My IPad doesn't even have that technology! IPads are now funded for Q1 2018. And I'm hearing we will have access to the internet in our cockpit to view hazardous weather like our passengers can in Q1 2027. Sorry deadzoners. Good news is when you retire, you can fly a Cessna 172 immediately with all the latest technology we won't see for another decade. |
My issue has never been with durability of the Surface. In my experience it handles the disgusted tosses onto the glareshield while waiting for apps to load rather well! :D

We need the best tools available. I guess the FAA (like the post office) is the hold up. 50 years of tradition uninterrupted by progress. |

Sweet, so now define "funding".
Surplus 8GB iPad 2's or the new Pro? I carry my laptop with me also (photographer also) so I'd looooove to have one device (iPad pro) to do it all on the road. |

Bring back "bring your own iPad" now. The thing just gets worse with every update. The busy spinning wheel of life wasted indicator is my new screensaver......or is it just still busy???

My hope is cash allowance and a minimum requirement to be met for spec. Choose your own, download necessary apps and carry on.

Also, to gszg's point, we should have access to not only weather, but the performance, and dispatch functions that a tablet can do. There is no reason we should have to look at paper charts to find performance data, driftdown speeds, holding data, etc. We should also be able to do any manual weight, and balance calculations automatically on the iPad. All this stuff is currently available for GA years ago. |
If you can reduce training to what it has become, with the FAA's blessing. Why can't you give us tools that have been available for years. Follow the money.

The best option is BYOD(because privacy) with the new iPad pro with iOS 11. This is very very close to a complete laptop replacement.
