Oh Those Kidders at Etihad...

BERLIN (Reuters) - Air Berlin (AB1.DE), Germany's second largest airline, filed for bankruptcy protection on Tuesday following years of losses and after key shareholder Etihad Airways withdrew funding, with bigger rival Lufthansa (LHAG.DE) saying it is in talks to take over parts of the business.
The insolvency comes as thousands of Germans are enjoying their summer holidays and just ahead of a September general election.

Didn't AA recently drop them as a codeshare as well?

The Etihad house of cards is starting to wobble.

So this is Air Berlin falling apart, not Etihad? Sounds like Etihad pulled funding on AB.

Unless the country itself folds up Etihad will be around and do just fine.

Everything they have invested in was in bankruptcy or is operating at a loss. Unfortunately that's OK with the Emir. There's no reality check when the country is trying to diversify its businesses. Airlines, banking, tourism etc. Oil won't sustain forever and they know it.
