Default No More Alcohol on Deadheads?

Per the flight ops email today. No more alcohol if you're deadheading even if you're deviating. Those International Deadheads in Delta One are going to be a whole lot longer now.

... not to mention no alcohol 8 hours PRIOR to a DH OR a DDH on mainline.

It’s a bummer, yes.

But if you can’t stand being in Delta One for 13 hours without having a drink, you may have a problem.

Anyone hear any stories that caused this change?

I can't stand being in Delta One without having a nice glass of wine, particularly on an international flight. But I don't fly for Delta, so I don't have to adhere to their crew rules. Bummer a small number of people cause everyone to get punished.

They actually don't. The company chooses to use that logic, though... and too many pilots are willing to accept it.

How many millions of hours of alcohol-permitted dead heading have Delta pilots completed without incident? Is there really a measurable risk to our business model?

From the stories I’ve heard, yeah. When you can’t fire people, you have to make some rules that harm the innocent.
