Validating a foreign degree email from Delta

I got an e-mail today asking me to start the process of validating my foreign college degree (I went to college in Canada, eh).

Does anyone know if this is a canned e-mail sent to anyone on airlineapps with a foreign college listed, or did someone actually look at my application and fire off the e-mail?

Exciting to get the e-mail either way...

Thanks!

It's not a canned email, it is actually from Delta. I got one of those back in 2014. Follow the instructions in the email. I ended up using a education attorney in Florida, I think they may have recommended the service in the letter.

It cost a couple of hundred dollars. They sent a copy of the letter directly to Delta and I received a copy. It was a letter evaluating my degree and said it was equivalent to a degree in science from a US 4 year degree program.

I didn't get an invite to interview until 2.5 years later.

Wow sorry to hear that. I can't believe we make people go through nonsense like that for what should be a garden variety transcript request which, if from an established and known school should be more than enough.

My degree was from a reputable European university. Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately) the education system is quite a bit different in some parts of Europe. For instance when I requested transcripts from my university it doesn't give grades, only classes taken and pass or fail for each class. We didn't have such a thing as GPA in university. The only thing that matters is your final exams which I passed with honors and a grading system that says your in either the top, middle or bottom third of your class or that you failed your finals.

I can understand why Delta asks you to have someone independent and knowledgeable in these things review and provide certification to make sure the credentials you have are valid and equal to a US degree.

While it was a pain in the a*** I was happy to do it and pretty excited that someone at Delta had actually looked at my application. I was a little less excited by the 2.5 year wait before I got the interview. Luckily it all turned out well.

BTW HerkGuy80, the company I used was Josef Silny & Associates out of Miami. Josef Silny & Associates | Home

Thanks AirFix, finished my order with them yesterday.

The requirement makes sense, I'm sure there are a lot of shady "degrees" out there.

Sorry to revive an old thread...

Is this considered a fixit? Anyone else have experience of the response after?

Thank you in advance.

+1.

Same problem. There doesn't seem to be a way to get it to be anything other than non-accredited foreign college.

A very smart billionaire venture capitalist recently said this (paraphrased):

"Today's college degree's will soon be tomorrow's Taxi medallions."

Good statement about the credential mills (aka colleges) are starting to look like the emperor with no clothes. A degree is not knowledge, nor even a predictor of potential employee value.

Still... needed at Big D. Best of luck.

It will eventually lead to a crisis within the next 20 years, and probably cause an economic depression. This job finally balanced with starting regional pay above $60,000, but for the rest of the economy, that's not possible.

Interested in this as well. If someone has a suggestion for who to go to for an evaluation of a Canadian 4 year degree please advise, thanks!

Yeah right. 15 years ago the director of training at my cargo company told everyone without a degree, "just wait 5 years, the majors won't require a degree".

A college degree will likely always be required, if only to make the pile of resumes smaller. Also, interviewing someone who spent 4 years working through a college program implies that they stick with complicated training and completed it. Definitely relevant in an aviation career.

As I'm sure we have people with history degrees, english or whatever non-technical field, an engineering background isn't required to fly a plane. But I think a college degree certainly makes a better, well rounded pilot. And yes, I've flown with both.

Why don't you message Delta pilot recruitment?
