Airport Car Registration
 

I am looking at getting an airport car for ATL, but I have an out of state driver's license. A quick search on the GA DMV site said you needed a GA license to register your vehicle.

Does anyone know if there are any exceptions to the GA license requirement? I really don't want to register a car in the state I live only to drive it all the way to ATL on my days off.

Sooooooooo......you want to register an out-of-state car in GA with an out-of-state license?

Pretty sure that, short of creating a corporation in GA that holds the car as an asset (or transferring your title to a nice ATL-based FA who is a GA resident and can register the car in his/her name on your behalf...now...what could go wrong there???), the GA DMV is going to give you the big ol' Heisman if you try to register that vehicle unless your Driver's License and GA registration match.

Probably should just download Waze from the App Store and start driving. 😁

Well, it wouldn't be an out of state car. I would buy the car in ATL. The only other option I can think of is having a friend in ATL register the car under his name.

Im pretty sure u can do it 2 ways. Register in ur home state and sign affidavit of it not being in the state to excuse emissions test.

Or. As i have done. Register it in GA with the address on your state DL. Your out of state DL shudnt matter.

Iv had GA reg cars wth a CA DL. CA registrd cars wth a GA DL. You should register the car where you operate it. This facilitates emission/safety inspection compliance and road tax compliance.

But all my registrations show the address on my DL.

AFAIK only away around this rule is active duty military. One of the 1st things we did when we moved to GA was buy a new vehicle but we still had our TX DLs. We couldn't get the car registered until we got fresh new GA DLs :(. Good luck!

Fortunately as far as stupid DMVs go, this one was a little less stupid than the last few I'd been to.

Why not buy it in Atlanta and register it in the state you live? I don't think there is anything wrong with leaving a car in Atlanta that is registered in another state.

Google the GA rules. They are somewhat Bizarre. You must register a car in GA if it’s there more than 30 days but you can’t register it there unless you have a GA license. Virtually every other state recognizes that non residents may have a valid reason to keep a car in state and allow you to register it with your out of state address.
Register it in your home state and if ever stopped make sure you don’t admit the car has been there more than 30 days. IE:You’re a Delta pilot there temporarily for training.

I just registered mine in my home state. I think I had to get a VIN verification done at a local police station but everything else was thru the mail. I guess it depends if your home state allows this.
