How about this hypothetical rotation? Affects JFK, LAX and SEA pilots who are currently flying at least one of these legs.

Virtual Basing
A. The Company may establish one or more virtual bases for pilots, as follows:
2016.10.04 TA MOU #16-03 – Virtual Basing & Temporary Duty
1. 2.
A virtual base will not be located:
a. outside the contiguous 48 states of the United States.
b. at an existing pilot base.
A virtual base rotation will not:
a. begin with an ocean crossing flight segment.
b. contain an ocean crossing flight segment to or from an existing pilot base.
It does not end in an ocean crossing into a pilot base.

There's a chance VB can benefit some pilots who leave near the VB. There's a chance opening a new base (or closing a current category) could benefit some pilots by putting flying near them. There's a chance the closing could hurt some pilots. In related news, Change Occurs In The Airline Industry.
I'm Pro-Choice on the issue. If we don't like the way the kid turns out, be can abort it after-the-fact.

MEC Alert 18-12.
Special meeting extension to discuss virtual basing. Thoughts? I know I have written my reps to support the termination of VB. I like the TDY portion, but if VB goes so does TDY.
Anyone else have any insight/thoughts on this meeting?

Now that it's up and running, I personally think the risk of trying it out for a few months is pretty low. The category doesn't affect me directly, so easy for me to say... but debating some real-world observed pros and cons would seem to be better than just hypotheticals. Naturally, the way the company tries it out initially is no guarantee they'll continue with that same methodology, so that's a threat in determining effects.

There is no doubt that the virtual bases will be great from the company perspective during the test period. They want them in the PWA. Later they can start peeling back layers until it works for them.
I don’t understand the blind faith some have in this when we (or our union) control very little. They want a base in MCO? Open one. BOS? Open one.
