Default Vacation question

Gang,
I have vacation starting on Jun 3 for 2 weeks. Got a trip with wife for 20th anniversary. Go figure, scheduling gave me a spill over trip that goes all the way to June 2nd, blocking in at 2230 at night, i.e. 1.5 hrs before my vacation starts. Does anyone know any contact relief? Booked trip to leave to leave on the 1st of June, 6 months ago (Italy) long before we had our May schedules. Other than APD and losing the 20hr trip (lot of lost $ there), any body got ideas. So far No real open time available and nobody seems to want to swap. So I'm open to ideas. Thanks!

There is no real contract relief. When you say scheduling I assume you really mean PBS. Possible solutions.
1. Authorized Personal drop. Requires only 25% reserve coverage
2. IVD the trip
3. Plead your case to the CP for a drop. You are going to need to show you made every effort in your PBS bid to get the time off initially.
4. Put in every blind swap possible.

Put it on the pilot to pilot swap board. You can also IVD/PD/APD the trip and grab something out of open time or off the swap board. If you APD just drop the last day of the trip so you can fly over the other days of the original trip.

There are good things about this job and not so good things. This falls into the latter category. My free advise is worth exactly what you pay for it.

1. Talk with "Wife 1.0" and explain the situation. Include in your talking points: you value the relationship and your history together above the job..

2. Explain to her the tradeoffs involved, including detailing the $$$ you may lose to be with her. Ask for her opinion..and tell her you plan to drop the trip using any means possible so you can spend this important time together.

3. Based on results of #2....Drop trip (with a Personal Drop if possible). Depending on your vacation status, perhaps you can use an IVD to ameliorate the financial consequences?

4. Attempt to recoup lost time with WS/GS, Pilot Swap, etc.

5. Go on your 20th and enjoy it. Delta will be here when you get back.

6. If there are financial consequences, consider them an investment. Keeping "Wife 1.0" will make your life and finances much easier.

7. IF "Wife 1.0" doesn't handle the discussion well, you may want to cut losses early. However, with your screen name and the fact that you've been together for (almost) 20 years, I suspect she's enjoying the easier duty as an airline wife.

BTW. Looks like you are fairly new at DAL. Welcome, enjoy the ride!

Individual vacation day. Change in last contract. Essentially use APD but still get paid by using vacation day(s).

Take any day from any one of your vacations, and drop it on a trip you want to drop. You can drop it on any day and the whole trip will drop just like an APD...You can do this 2 times per year I think, and even buy the vacation day back if you want.
