We have too many fleet types, period.
With us also taking the c series on, I predict many more surpluses in the next couple years.
In 5-10 years this airline will probably be
320/321 Neo
737900
C series
330 Neo
350
That’s not bad but to take pilots off the other fleets over the next 10 years is going to be very difficult. The c series does the exact same thing the 717 does and so much more so I would hope more are ordered and the 717 are gone as leases expire
Also the 777 didn’t have any departures in dtw for the last 2-3 years or so so this was inevitable after the 350 was placed there. Still sucks though.

I think you don’t understand why many of us bid the 88. We knew it was gonna be like this but wanted to make a money grab while we could. It’s not for everyone but I don’t think the bottom 50 are ignorant (or were) that this was likely to happen. I have no problem slinging gear again and will enjoy seniority again after making some Xmas money.

Not really, because I really doubt many if any of the Junior ATL 88A's would choose to go to the right seat of the C-series in NYC, and there's no guarantee they'd be able to/want to take C-100A in NYC either.

None of the 50 bottom ATL 88 Captains can hold anything else as Captain, MAYBE a few can hold NYC 717. If a senior guy wants to try to voluntary displace he would only get the bidding power of those at the bottom that he would be taking the displacement from allowing them to stay. So basically unless the company wants to add these Captains to other Captain categories they better get ready to swing gear again.

I'm sure there are planners pulling their hair out because the cs is delayed and they need to do their... resourcing.

There has never been any talk of displacing 60 ATL ER As. Here is what crew resources said “initial projections for summer 2019 would adjust staffing across several bases in the following way; ATL (-60 CA)” . Adjusting staffing can happen many ways other than displacements. They won’t displace anyone unless they have too. In the next 24 months the ATL ER A category is retiring 54 pilots. By summer of 2019 there are bound to be another 10-20 who bid something else. I’ll bet when it’s all said and done no one gets displaced from the ATL ER A. But the people currently there will not move up for a long long time.

I find it fascinating the guys I run into that act as if I’m entitled for bidding 88A and getting it junior.
Some of the guys going through are 20 year retired military, far from your “millennial” “new rude awakening” pilot.
The fact is simple, we saw a quick money grab and knew it would be short lived. For 4 weeks of VA Ave at 88A rate and $6k-$7k/ month difference; avg displaced 88A is going to make around $30-40k extra in 4-6 months + DC + PS. This was simply a money grab.
