Probably because anyone hired now will have the option to be a WB Captain in well under 10 years. Spending 20+ years on that pay scale is not an option just about anywhere else.

Lots of great reasons to go to DL, so not throwing any spears. There's a lot more to the equation than just career earnings.

I've got friends that hired on at FDX around the time I started at DL... it's been very similar earnings and career progression. Some of them ended up with a rather long time in the back seat of the 727, though... which is obviously no longer a factor.

I did some quick, back of the napkin figuring and concluded that if you were hired today, a FEDEX pilot will make $423,076 more over a 30 year career, but a Delta pilot would be 19.7 percent happier. The FEDEX pilot will live to be 86, while the Delta pilot will live to be 91. The FEDEX pilot will have 1.7 wives, while the Delta pilot will have 2.1.
The Delta pilots kids will be better looking....

Everyone likes different things. But, obviously, it's a tough choice.

The numbers don’t lie.

A lot of variables with this one. Are we talking you take first upgrade available and maximizing pay going forward? such as only upgrading onto the highest paying equipment you can hold as soon as you can hold it?

You've been at delta about a decade, are you creeping up on 330 or better capt anytime soon? I have to imagine the time to be a widebody capt at fedex is sooner than delta.

Another thing to consider is since 2014 delta has hired around 4k pilots. Doesn't seem to bode well for those wanting to be widebody capts there. Doesn't delta also have the lowest percentage /number of widebody planes of the majors? (not counting the ER)

Is the ER not a widebody?

I’m a lil jelly when I hear the amount of legs/block hours FedEx guys may do on a given trip in comparison to the airlines.

It is technically. But it's much closer to the 737-9 and a321 in pay than the 330/777 so I counted it out. FO pay doesn't get into the 200's on those. Now the 767-4 does get a bump up in pay but there are only 21 of those per apc and 58 of the lower paying 767-3's.

Not sure why the 767 is a.) split up as far as pay goes between the -3 and -4 and b.) that much lower than the other widebodies. Hopefully that gets addressed the next round of negotiations.

Way too many factors to accurately predict career earnings. According to a WSJ calculator, after year 1 (at either), you're in the top 5% of wage earners in the United States...so we're really splitting hairs here. How much do you really need to make to be happy?

If I currently had job offers from both, I would think about where I want to live. If I lived within short call range of a base, I would go to that airline. Getting paid to build my plane while sitting short call in my garage, is pretty hard to beat. If I wanted to live in a place that required a commute, I'd go to FedEx.

Less likely to have any “Breaking News” video cast from the cabin at FeDEx. Especially the captain having to handle an unruly passenger. Yet, they do have to learn the doors for their own egress.
