SA on Delta
Hey guys, I was hoping you could answer a quick question for me. I’m nonreving with the whole family (ID90) on you guys. After check in, when I click ‘upgrade/standby list’ it shows number of first class seats, delta comfort seats, and then available seats. The comfort seats and first class numbers add up to more than the total available seats shown. Do I add up all three of these categories to get the total number of seats unassigned? The seat map on Delta.com shows tons of open seats, but I’m wondering if that’s because basic economy folks don’t have seats assigned? I’m just trying to figure out how the read the standby list and get a somewhat accurate number. Thanks all I appreciate it.

Trying to commute home the other day. Flight was over by 4 revenue standbys and JS was taken. Was told by the agent there was no way I would get on. Took a different (not as good option). The flight went out with a couple open EC seats (the JS in one of them). There is no way to tell with the DAL system. Only way to know for sure is wait til they close the door.

Best tool I've found is internal delta folks is Icrew NRSA tab PAX count. Outside of 24hrs it shows exactly how many tickets have actually been sold and in what class. That along with deltanet standby list is pretty good at seeing if you have a shot. Inside 24hrs, the sold seats number us accurate but standby for some reason double counts people trying to upgrade as additional standby pax. Hope this helps somebody. Cheers.

From my perspective, the only way you can get somewhat of a decent handle on available seats is within 24 hours of departure. Typically that is when the HK's (for the most part Basic Economy holders) will show up on the airport standby list. Anything outside of that is a crapshoot. As of this month, Basic Economy seats are also being sold on International flights and to complicate things more HKF and HKFB are a new category for HK First or Business Class. And for the Delta guys and gals, I just returned from Paris and there was a 9E guy given an S2 priority...didn't know they could do that.

It’s a crapshoot inside of 24 hours too. I have left the house for a flight with several open seats only to arrive at the airport an hour later to find an oversold flight.

My personnel record for making a flight is:
-Oversold by 7
-5 additional revenue standbys
-9/11 on the standby list
Morale of the story: Don't leave the gate area until the flight pushes back
