Default Passenger sues Delta- over an apple.

Just saw a story where a Denver woman is suing Delta over an apple that was given to her as a snack on an international flight. The woman states that she wasn’t hungry, so she stuffed the offending apple into her carry-on baggage only to neglect to declare said apple when going through customs and immigration. Since Delta originally gave her the apple on her flight to the US, Obviously they should be liable for her $500 fine!!
Apparently there is no end to people who refuse to take responsibility for their own actions.....

Woman fined $500 for saving free Delta Air Lines snack | Fox News

While I don't see anything about suing Delta, the fact that she blames Delta in the article is utterly ridiculous....personal responsibility?? She should've received a customs form that asks about fruit....gmab

So, no indication that anyone is suing delta at all.

No, it states she's Global Entry - no customs form until the electronic version. She should have declared it there, true point.

She also stated that she's worried about losing Global Entry. That is a realistic possibility. This is worth a read for international crewmembers: https://mic.com/articles/188797/losi...ake#.cLIavwUWA

I agree. Her best case IMHO is to throw herself at the mercy of CBP along with trying to get her federal representatives involved. It clearly was not only an honest mistake, but a reasonable person could at least credibly believe that something handed out on a plane going to a destination was OK for that destination, while still accepting ultimate responsibility and admitting technical fault and arguing for the fine to be rolled back in this one case because it was semi-confusing and awareness needed to be raised.

But when she took to the public bandwidth to blast DL for "handing out foreign apples" she basically shredded any chance of sympathy based on reasonableness because that was so radically unreasonable of a premise in the first place.

Exactly. Can we get a thread title change? Reading is hard.

Those international flight attendants must be something else if they can force someone to take an apple they didn't want. Last time I flew, I was offered a snack and didn't have to take anything.

We have had a Delta pilot get caught with a Apple in MSP. He was fined 500 dollars, removed from global entry and gets sent to a secondary inspection every time.

I once walked into msp customs carrying a banana peel while looking for a trash bin. I told the first agent and I felt like George getting a 2319 on Monsters.

No $500 fine but they came with a chem/bio sterile bag and used gloves to take it from my hand and put into the bag.
