Not looking to create a fight here but who wants this? Every newish guy/gal I know definitely doesn't want a pension. It's all the guys/gals within a few years of retirement that want it. I understand the being made whole thing, but this doesn't seem smart. Why is this being seriously considered and what am I missing?

You’re not missing anything. Nobody wants a pension. Exactly why I’m dumbfounded the union is spending all this time and money looking into it.

Yikes. Looks like I might have to actually contact my reps. They can try to add anything they want, but don’t touch the 401(k).

If the Reps won’t direct the above...then they can be sent packing. Do not screw with the DC in any way, shape or form. |

I thinks it’s time we all blow up our Reps phones & emails. This stupidity needs to be nipped in the bud. The R&I Committee needs to be directed to cease & desist any spending of dues money researching a DB plan (or the latest feel good made up name for it) and the Negotiating Comittee given direction to not waste an ounce of negotiating muscle pursuing this mental masterbation. The ONLY thing that will come of this is dragging out Sec 6 and if we do get ANY sort of DB, it will be self funded through lower raises or a decreased dc contribution...you know, the one that’s vested in your name every 15 days???

I’d be very open to another retirement opportunity...as long as my 16% DC remains untouched. Perhaps one in which my contribution is exces 415 dollars and gets some company contribution as well. Never a bad thing to have another income stream in retirement and tax shelter more current income. I just spoke with a rep and it sounds like that’s the direction they are investigating.

The concept of Deferring compensation to be paid after retirement I thought was a excellent idea! CEO’s do it all the time!
The paper put out by the union was designed to educate pilots on the various options. It did not imply support for any of them. The point was to allow you to review what can be done and give impute back. Forum angst strikes again! |

I'm for any plan that will encourage senior guys to retire sooner, including moving to glitch-filled user interfaces for monthly bidding and regular change of EFB technology with deletion of all manual bookmarks... :)
