Default LAX-HND payload optimization non rev travel

I am the son of a retired pilot (S3B) and am looking to fly from Lax to Haneda in late June along with my daughter who would be using a buddy pass. I'm wondering if anybody has experience with this flight and the likelihood of getting bumped due to payload optimization. When trying to book the flight on travel net I get this pop up. "Flights from LAX-HND are sometimes payload optimized. Even though seats may show available, nonrevenue travelers may not be boarded or may be downgraded"

Thanks in advance!

How old are you? Your travel pass benefits end at age 18 unless you're in college and then I think they can only be extended to 23.

I am 37 and am still able to ride on my mother's Delta bennies (she is a retired red coat). You pay a "yield fare" after the age of 23, which is typically 100-150 bucks for an international flight. To answer the original question, I don't think you will have an issue with the payload. I non-rev on DAL quite a bit internationally, and the "sometimes" language can be translated as "once in a blue moon". If you see "often" or "frequently" I would be more hesitant. I have done LAX-HND twice with the girlfriend (we were S3C as I worked for a Delta Connection carrier at the time) and got Delta One both times. I like HND as the SB loads seem to be much lighter than NRT. Good luck and feel free to PM me with any questions!

Incorrect, you keep travel benefits but downgrade to a S3B and pay a yield fare.
To the OP’s original question going to HND should not be a problem. Coming back can be more of a issue. Look in travelnet and check a couple of different days.

Ive seen the 777 depart HND with 50+ empty seats, and no nonrevs due to tailwind departures
