August SILS - 40 hours....
Does anyone know how vacation (which I have in August) effects a SILS? If I bid and receive a SILS, would I be short-changed out of vacation pay or would it be 40 hours PLUS vacation? Anyone? Anyone?? thanks.

Just read the union memo on this. Don’t get the outrage.
In what universe is getting 40 hours of pay for getting the whole month off a bad thing.
I get they used to be worth more but no ones getting their arms twisted here. Either it’s worth it and you bid it or it isn’t and you don’t.
I’m in for 40 hours and an entire summer month off. If I can hold it that is.

But it sure makes the MEC look tough.

I think it was less about the money and more about the violation of LOA#2 and thus the PWA...again. The Company may commence awarding SILs in any bid period, following notification and concurrence of the MEC Scheduling Committee Chairman.. I guess that didn't happen.

The letter reads like they don’t support them at their present measly value. I guess the company is cheating me by paying me $12k to stay home and do nothing. Good thing I've got someone looking out for me.

I thought the issue was the company publishing the SILs even though the union said hold your horses which was a contract violation. Could be wrong.

It could be the schedule inflexibility for those remaining pilots who would like some summer scheduling flexibility. If you rob them of all or most of their blue days and force more reserve pilots to fill up (or even go to ALV plus 15), there's definitely a price paid for those 40-hour SILS...a price paid by union brethren and not by the company. I can see both sides; it's not black and white, IMHO.
