The company tried the 55 hour SIL’s. They looked back to see the impact and they were not saving money. They discontinued all use of them.

While I appreciate the respect, I'm a Duke. Their willful contract violation may be a ploy to to distract or complicate upcoming negotiations. I think they'd like to muddy the waters and this may be a first step.

They are playing some chess right now......... The Company negotiators are not stupid. When we go into negotiations under NMB auspices and they agree to clear up all these items, the NMB is going to look back at the Union and say............."so management is being amendable (see what I did there!), why aren't you?"

So 5he MEC feels disrespected. They curtail the SIL's to send a message. 500 SIL's is approx 3% of the pilots. I anticipate that the ALV will be reduced by about 3% or roughly 3 hours per month. So 14500 pilots make 3 hours less in the summer months when they are overstaffed, 500 pilots don't get the month totally off which they desire, so we can draw a line in the sand?
Kinda sounds like lose/ lose ..hopefully the payoff comes in C2020.

What will the MEC do when they utilize every opportunity to put every reserve pilot on max amount of short calls per month in accordance with the contract?

PS
Not a reserve bidder, just wondering how this will play out

But they need to keep the average at 75 for the year right?

You don't know your contract very well... the TLV remains, and reserve pilots have to be paid a YOY average of 75.5 hours. Literally everything you wrote is not the case except they could run short calls to the max (it's already pretty close to that, anyways).

At one time, I think SILs paid 60 hours and everybody was happy. A consecutive pair of them in 2002 gave me some good practice for retirement.
