Weren’t we codesharing with Swissair when their MD11 went down because of an electrical fire or something? I remember in indoc hearing about a code share crash in the 90’s that could have bankrupted us if we were found liable.

We were! My understanding is the fallout from that is how we changed to the junk basic manuals.

Who will hold the financial liability of an airline crash can get pretty complicated.
When Colgan 3407 crashed in Buffalo in 2009, 100% of the passengers were booked by Continental, who received the revenue. The financial liability was borne by Northwest Airlines.
Pinnacle had purchased Colgan in 2007. Pinnacle at the time of the crash was wholly-owned by Northwest, who insured the hull and the operator.
