Default Atlanta Council 44 Election Letter

This letter of unity, common support and endorsement was sent to C44 members today and says volumes on where these men stand and who they are.

I post it here in full support of all four of them for election as our C44 LEC Representatives:

Email to C44 Pilots.

Fellow Council 44 Pilots,

From all four of us, we’d like to express our sincere gratitude for all of you that participated in the nomination process, and we humbly submit to you a unified ticket for your consideration in the upcoming election. If you would like to know more about our vision for the council, contract negotiations, and who we are, please take the time to read the attachment below.

We are committed to forming a united Local Executive Council that supports each other in our duty to represent our council. Our joint vision is simple: be strong pilot advocates while maintaining a professional, business relationship with Company management. The four of us are making a commitment to you and to each other to set the standard of professionalism, mutual respect, and cooperation you expect and deserve. We believe a union is supposed to protect and improve pay, benefits, work rules, and quality of life, and we intend to realize this for both Council 44 and contract negotiations.

The four of us garnered the highest number of nominations, we share the same business-orientated mindset with regard to Company engagement, and we have made a commitment to each other to always remain professional and respectful of each other, our perspectives, and our positions. We extend this commitment to you, our fellow pilots of Council 44, and request your support in the upcoming election.

In Unity,

Brent, Derek, Jimmy, and Jon

Attachment of their common Vision and message,

Derek Archer
Brent Allen
Jon Payne
and of course, Jimmy Johnson

Fellow Pilots of Council 44,

Our Vision for Council 44

We are committed to forming a united Local Executive Council that supports each other in our duty to represent our council. Beyond individual representation, our elected Reps are a reflection of our council to you, management, the MEC, and ALPA National. We believe there is strength in unity, and a group of respectful, professional, and cooperative Reps will move the needle significantly more than four individuals with separate agendas.

Our joint vision is simple: be strong pilot advocates while maintaining a

professional, business relationship with Company management.

The four of us have discussed this at length and are making a commitment to you and to each other to set the standard of professionalism, mutual respect, and cooperation. This doesn’t mean we will necessarily always vote in lockstep or share identical perspectives on issues. Behind closed doors we will think critically, debate respectfully, work toward consensus, and then come out and stand shoulder to shoulder with each other and represent you with a level of professionalism you can be proud of.

Our commitment is not just with words or personal interactions; we do so with proposed action in the form of joint communications and increased lounge presence. We believe increased participation by our pilots is critical as we proceed into contract negotiations. We want more than just unity – we want to rebuild a sense of community.

• Joint communications, like this one, will be the standard with one objective: clear,

concise, and correct communication. Individual perspectives will be included in

the joint communication when needed. We will also make efforts to enhance

your access to us, and possibly even our LEC meetings, via online media.

• Our goal is to increase our lounge presence to more than just one week per

month by coordinating to cover more days during each lounge month.

Additionally, our LEC budget consistently has an annual surplus, and we’d like to

creatively employ that in ways that benefit you, such as catering lounge week to

increase participation and interaction among pilots and with the Reps.

Our Vision for Contract Negotiations

The pilot group must ultimately determine our negotiation goals, and we will derive our direction from you via every avenue available, including polling and surveys. However, it would be inequitable not to disclose our personal priorities as individuals as well. As pilots within this council, we believe our negotiations should prioritize scope, retirement, and work rules. Regardless, our personal goals must remain subordinate to the Council’s.

• We believe the absolute biggest potential threat to the Delta pilots is the

proliferation of Joint Ventures fused with ownership stakes. Scope affects all of us

and will dramatically impact the future of our careers and profession. We are

proud to be Delta pilots and we need to ensure that, as one of its largest

stakeholders, we share in that success by way of organic flying growth.

• While we do not believe one demographic should gain at the expense of any

other, there are a number of pilots on our seniority list who have experienced

unacceptable hardships and now face a tremendous shortfall in retirement.

Retirement is important to every demographic, and equitable and significant

gains should be made with respect to retirement and retiree healthcare for all

Delta pilots. Additionally, individual flexibility with regards to plan options should

be made available when possible.

• Management has set corporate goals to cut costs wherever possible in these

times of unprecedented financial success. We want Delta to be successful, but

management has elected to extract much of these costs from our work rules.

These lauded efficiencies impact us every time we put on the uniform by way of

reroutes, reduced layovers, lack of commutability, and reduced staffing. We need

to establish defensible teeth in the PWA so that our work rules cannot be

diminished at the superfluous whim of our executives and shareholders.

Finally, a union is supposed to protect and improve pay, benefits, work rules, and quality of life. Pay rates are only one part of our compensation and are largely set by the industry through pattern bargaining. We shouldn’t sacrifice our overall compensation, benefits, work rules and quality of life by chasing pay rates. We won’t sacrifice the overall quality of the contract simply to meet an artificial deadline, but we are aware of the time value of money. We will mitigate these concerns through education and polling to ensure we have negotiation goals that can be strongly supported by a large majority of the pilots.

Who We Are

The four of us garnered the highest number of nominations, we share the same business orientated mindset with regard to Company engagement, and we have made a commitment to each other to always remain professional and respectful of each other, our perspectives, and our positions. We extend this commitment to you, our fellow pilots of Council 44, and request your support in the upcoming election. Sounds promising..................If you can overlook all the Air Force experience.

Then again, Jimmy can straighten them out.

I'm generally on board with what they wrote, but this section concerns me:

"While we do not believe one demographic should gain at the expense of any other, there are a number of pilots on our seniority list who have experienced unacceptable hardships and now face a tremendous shortfall in retirement."

It sure sounds like they do, indeed, want a certain demographic group to gain at the expense of others based on their "unacceptable hardships". Flame away, but nearly everyone on the seniority list has had a sh*t sandwich of some variety during the lost decade. Why cater to 700-800 who are somehow "more screwed" than everyone else?

We've never before heard them mention the need for a professional business-like approach to working with the company. It's almost laughable for them to say they want unity and professionalism within the LEC. Two of them have contributed heavily to the current disfunction in our group, while another of them has already been recalled from an elected position in the past.

Yes, the letter does speak volumes on who they are. It also proves they will say anything to gain another elected position. Hopefully enough of us will vote to ensure that doesn't happen.

I agree with you 100 percent. That paragrpah is a huge red flag to me. I was one of the pilots who voted some of these guys in. Hoping to be one to vote them out now.

We all know where 100% of the consternation comes from.

It will be so amazing to have 4 reps pulling for the line pilots and jettison 2 who represent management’s interests.

Cost neutral and self funding are dead.

Mr. Bastian is returning $4 Billion annually to our “owners” and you two along with O’Mahoney want to grant concessions in C2019.

There is a part of me that believes if it were $8 Trillion you would still be selling our quality of life one concession at a time.

Given the presence of KO on the ballot, Derek and Brent have my vote for CA reps. They reached out after the nomination meeting to me, and I’ve agreed to keep involved in ALPA work with them. We only disagree on a few aspects, and that is far from insurmountable. There was a mutual aspect of enjoyable interaction at the meeting despite running against each other.

Vote for who you want for FO reps, however it’s critical that KO does not become a captain rep, though. I’ll more than likely be voting for Jon and Mark, if you are wondering.

I suspect others might have a different perspective/opinion of exactly which two in the Atlanta Council are contributing to the disfunction.........

^^^^^^THIS^^^^^^

I don't normally write things like this but I feel I must. I don't know KO but some of the stuff he has posted on social media is scary inappropriate. I've also read posts of his that basically lead me to believe he will vote how he wants too and not necessarily take the advice of his constituency. Buyer beware....

Was the companies behavior during ch11 a "professional business-like approach" or a total money grab? Was the companies "gateway issues" handled first in C2012, TA1 and TA2 the professional business-like approach" you're talking about? Was RA's threat of canceling the 737 order a "professional, business-like approach", or childish outburst because he was conditioned to getting the "companies gateway items(IE: anything good in our contract, reduced or eliminated for a small hourly rate increase? Won't call it a raise until our contract is made close in cost to pre ch11). It's obvious you are a proactive appeasement(engagement) type. Bottom line is this union, this contract direction will be decided by the roughly 5000 pilots hired post merger. The rest of us, both pre-merger from both sides have made up our minds. It's up to the post merger pilots to cast the deciding vote which way they want this "association or Union "to go. They will either vote for and support the reps that want to improve all areas of the contract or support the reps that think that giving the company more of their gateway items(Our work rules, benefits, SCOPE, etc) for a hourly rate 50 cents more than our competitors to brag that we are the highest paid.
