NYC “Mid” Layover
#12
I'm trying to understand how taking more vacations has anything to do with riding 50 minutes to a hotel next to a train yard, and ten minutes further to Manhattan.

I don’t know anywhere that’s 10 minutes further to Manhattan. If it truly is it’s a 7 dollar Uber ride. I have spent 10 minutes per block getting out of the city.

It probably saved some time on our pickup the next day but that also depends on your time.
The point is the Hotel is no better than the JFK Hotels. If we are just going to switch a dump hotel for another dump, we might as well stay at the closer dump.

Yeah, never spent a lot of time in downtown Frankfurt. I never really cared much for Mainz, the hotel or the town. I know a lot of old timers liked to go there, mostly to relive the glory days of the Pan Am hub. I loved the Dorint and the town of Weisbaden. To each their own. My point only being that there are some markets where a suburban layover could be a reasonable alternative. Or a beach layover in lieu of downtown... still haven't checked out this Mid Layover yet. I've looked at the extra drive time to the Sheraton, every time I have it's 20 minutes, not 10. Not saying it's not worth it, just that 10 minutes is pretty unrealistic.

We all know you reflexively defend anything that DALPA does but your 32 minute number is meaningless.
I just ran google maps to the mid hotel from JFK - 28 minutes.
Google maps JFK to Times Square - 35 minutes.
Late night it saved 7 minutes.
You can not run the time between the 2 hotels because we are not driving from one to the other. You have to run both from JFK and compare the times.
Finally and most importantly I concede it saves time, maybe as much as 30 minutes during busy times. My point is the Hotel is no better than the dumpy JFK hotels . So if you really want to save time and don’t mind a dump we might as well stay at the airport hotels.
At 15 + hours I would rather go to Manhattan.
