NYC “Mid” Layover
What am I missing here? We can “not have” all the stuff we “don’t have” at the Airport Hotels only after a long drive.
It’s only a few more minutes to Manhattan where we can all do “ a half a million things at a quarter to three” and yet does not provide a single thing over what the airport hotels provide.
I do not see a single advantage of this option for the Pilots - the company probably saves money over Manhattan but this place gets a big thumbs down from me. FCR to follow.

It appears that there is a lot more to do at the mid layover than the airport, that’s a good thing. The mid looks generally nicer than the airport too, also good. The whole “10 minutes more to downtown” is deceptive, it can be a lot longer than that in traffic. If Manhattan is your thing, it’s still doable.
The biggest problem with this scheme I have is that they should have us at the mid instead of the airport now for anything over say 12 hours. Anything over that just sucks at the airport. That needs adjusting.
I’m willing to give this a shot, but I’d like us to pursue better locations for long layovers in certain markets as a trade. FLL, MIA, LAX should be at or near a beach. ORD has better options too, better neighborhoods for sure. AMS Nord is just a joke now, the van can’t drop us downtown and instead drops at the ferry behind the train. 15 minute walk minimum to your first beer, and the van ride is now 15 minutes instead of 5. There is a beautiful big Doubletree right there. Cities like Dallas have great neighborhoods with better food and hotels. I don’t mind a suburban layover VS a downtown in certain markets if it’s nicer. Remember Wiesbaden? Much nicer than downtown Frankfurt. Raleigh Durham is an example of done right in my opinion. Way better than “downtown”.

So not an upgrade then. At least there is stuff walkable from there. Can’t go anywhere from the airport hotels. But again...the cutoff times. It’s just a downgrade if instead of going downtown, you’re going to the mid, and you get the airport for the same cutoff time.

Sure glad I get to avoid Manhattan. Only a short 50 minute drive to shut click and and get rest for my short 16.5 hours layover. Because I value those 10 saved minutes more than location on a 16.5 layover. [SARCASM]

Might be a few walk-able options, but most places worth going to will probably require an Uber/train ride.

This layover sucks. Please FCR it. It's the worst of both worlds. Why take a long drive for an airport quality layover? Drive me ten more minutes to Manhattan. There is something for everyone there. This place is a concession that I don't want to give. It sucks.

Huey Lewis. I haven’t been to the mid, or the downtown. It looks like we upgraded the quality of downtown big time. But the cutoff is long enough now that unless you’re international, you probably won’t see it. How many domestic rotations have a 22 hour NYC layover?

Must not have been in the right part of Frankfurt. Mainz is a joke by comparison.
