I heard that there is talk of opening the 320 base in LAX with minimal crews to start the 6 month clock ticking on a new base. This would subsequently open the door allowing for breaking seat locks - new category.
I understand that the company wants to minimize training but this would only work if the next big AE was more than 6 months down the road. If there is a MOAB in April or May it would still be a new category?
I don't know what to think about this rumor but, I see it as a CR technique in the future used to minimize Pilots breaking seat locks. Any contract Ninjas know if we have some sort of PWA protection against this sort of contractual end around?

I'm not sure how much this really helps them in the long run. Any shortened months of one's seat lock from the previous category are carried on top of the lock in the new category, no? I'd think they might actually want to bring training forward, before retirements accelerate.
