Or go to a regular university and major in a STEM field as a back-up, while working on your ratings on weekends/summers and your local ma and pa FBO.

A much better use of your resources IMHO.

Agreed. College should only be a few grand a year (it was for a long time until we started barfing money and tax scams at it in yet another failed attempt to socially engineer society) and ratings can still be had for a small fraction of the costs of Big Box Ed providers. They are actually one of the worst places to get ratings and hours because of the insane over inflated costs involved.

Its funny to see airlines try to both outsource and throw money at the problem and the end result is something that rivals medical school in costs/debt all to maybe shave some time off and in some cases not even that.

Aviat offers a fully restored better than new 152 that flight schools can buy and operate for around $64 wet (private, much of instrument, most time building and CC, most of Commercial, much of CFI etc) and there are quality options cheaper than that. Yet everyone thinks making it rain on the problem like Charlie Sheen at a strip club is somehow going to fix the problem.

For those cheerleading the "shortage" yes its great right now and a low(er) supply does help us. But not when there's massive retirements and the barrier to entry is med school prices. When that isn't adequate, and it won't be, there could be a crisis that those with diverging interests to labor will be all too quick to try and exploit.

Sioux suck.

Or whatever they call themselves these days.

The dumbest financial move you can make is going to UND or ERAU for flight training.

ebl14 03-06-2019 07:53 PM

UND and ERAU are miles apart financially.

... And temperature-wise too...

So much for those who went to good schools and were academically tested... I know two guys at UND who both say that it's easier than high school.

First of all, being easy could mean the information was simply conveyed well.

Second, it wasn't easier than high school...

But admittedly both are great options for those precluded from military service, lifestyle stuff, or course......

Love how FB ATC memes trolls ERAU. That guy has a gift.
