Default Improving retirement

Seems the Secure Act is working its way out of committee in congress. Its intended to improve 401 plan access and benefits. Also has some IRA changes that may be beneficial.

I wonder if any of our advocates in DC are working to include lifting the contribution limits to 401 plans.

Did you e-mail your reps and ask them?

thanks for stating the rhetorical intent of the post.

the vehicle to increase current limits isn't likely to come along as a stand alone opportunity in congress. In reading over the apparent bipartisan support for the security act there might be some daylight to move the bar. The language does tweak 401 as well as IRA parameters.

Given their typical focus, its doubtful an LEC rep would have any idea of what you were talking about should you contact them about this. Instead might try the MEC. Or national.

I was being serious. If your reps don't know, they should be able to get you the answer or get you to someone who can answer the question. Then this discussion could be much more relevant and fruitful. I hadn't really thought to ask that question because I'd rather have money to invest outside of the stock market.

same seriousness here. Its an interesting bipartisan legislative effort, the first I believe since the one resulting from the financial meltdown. Its out there if anyone is interested in what is being worked on.

The IRA adjustments may be of some benefit to airline pilots, the small employer group improvements probably not. Ive emailed legislative affairs to see if its on their radar screen.

I have no disagreement with having money in hand and not in a self directed lock box, but lifting current limits would only increase the individuals options on allocating earnings.
