If you drop your entire schedule, then get hurt or sick and can't work, you are unable to pick up trips and will get very little hours for the month. Just a caution. One broken bone with an empty schedule will result in your schedule staying empty.

I haven’t gotten hurt but my schedule is still pretty empty....OT and swaps are sparse! I’ll have to refine my WS....

I drop my entire schedule and it has bitten me twice....2 different deaths in family.

You get a few trips dropped with pay normally.

But with no trips on schedule...no pay.

One of my 15th/ month pay checks was $100!

There is no way around this. They will not pay you for any trip picked up while sick or hurt if you cannot fly it when you pick it up.

The benefits wrt to pay and QOL far outweigh the down side of having something happen and losing out on a month. Plus if you're past 1st year and living such that you can't handle such a thing happening for a single month, you should probably reevaluate your financial planning.

I agree with you. I was just mentioning something to think about. Most people don't realize this until something happens and it's too late.

Ehhh, why would you trigger sick status on an empty schedule? Of course if you fall down the jetbridge stairs and create a high-profile injury, you probably are on the hook. But for 99% of the illness/injury/grieving we might face, it wouldn't make little sense to call out from zero flying obligations. Just sayn'!

One major broken bone (hand, wrist, arm, etc.) ends your flying for the month instantly. Ask me how I know. An empty schedule will stay empty.

Do you have a PWA reference to back your claim? I have picked up trips from the swap board / open time while out sick and have always gotten paid for them if I couldn't end up flying them.
