Vacation Ideas
I'm starting to plan next year's Spring Break adventure for my family. Kids and wife are all over the map. They want Ireland, Sparta (my son has played too much of the Assassin's Creed game), or Italy.
I was thinking about throwing in a curve ball to go to J-Burg for a safari. Their break is early March and it looks like that is off season. I feel like this could be a pretty good life experience for them. Any ideas to the shots, visas, etc required to get there?
Any thoughts on this or the or the other destinations? We plan on non-revving because we like the adventure of maybe choosing a completely different place on the fly, thus, we are flexible.
Worst case maybe this thread can be used to help others as ignorant as me planning a vacation.

I'll PM you all the deet's ,....at least it will provide you a jumping off point on things to ponder. Might be a day or two......we went in FEB-Mar both times. Had a great time but then again one man's trash is another......

I have not non-revved to Jo'burg but done a fair bit of non-rev travel with the family. It's do-able - backup routes are key for Jo'burg, especially on the way back because it can be Payload Optimized very easily. People seem to take KLM/AF/Virgin Atlantic etc to Europe and get home that way if they can't get on the DL plane back to ATL.
Here is a trip report from FlyerTalk from what looks to be a single guy, who has some non-rev benefits on DL, who went to J'burg for a safari, definitely read it:

In all seriousness, vacations can be stressful with all of the planning, and the organizing, and the pressure to "wow" yourself/your family, etc..
There's something to be said about going somewhere and actually relaxing.
My wife and kid and I rented a giant house dirt-cheap in Florida for 8 days and slept late, BBQed burgers and dogs, went for aimless drives, and hung out by the pool all day.
I get it, that its not everyone's thing, just thought I'd add my perspective.
