Range maybe. Cargo? No way. Total pax... when including the Delta cabin layout? No way.

757. Maybe. But from what I’ve seen it also comes in short on MGTOW on that comparison as well.

I read an article last year about Airbus developing an A322. New wing. Bigger. To be a 757 replacement. 321 like it’s Boeing counterpart 737 can only be stretched so far... before...

As of now the only reason I can see the 321XLR is in the mix is to let Boeing know they don’t have a monopoly on the ER replacement order.

The 797 will have an eye watering price tag, composite production line, with an all new low production volume, custom engine. It’s like building a minivan using Bugatti parts.

Yeah, but think about how sweet that minivan would look....I still think sadly upon the day that I traded in my BMW for a minivan.

One of the saddest day of my life. (Damn kids better appreciate me.)

Interesting article on delta web about how delta buys aircraft. From personal interaction in the early 90s I have always believed we have tremendously talented, motivated, and innovative employees.

The article reconfirms my belief, but also includes a reference to Boeing having put the 7-7 Mom project on the ‘back burner’.

The 797 is total V A P O R W A R E. We won’t see any more clean sheet designs. There isn’t enough efficiency left to justify the price.

The only way they could make it work is if the plane was also military, and the .gov fit the bill.
They may still soft launch the 797 next year to see what the market will accept, then probably offer a 767 with Ultrafan, or Goliath GTF in place of the 797.

Because of their proven track record of innovation with military contracts? They couldn't even get the KC-46 right even though it's based off a nearly 40 year old air frame. No, we definitely don't want the government involved with the design of a hypothetical 797.
