OUCH! Just looked it up and it appears that is correct. Ok, just skip the 764. We do have 1A on the 302 (never flown a 4-man crew with one though) and I actually sleep pretty dang well there with the curtain. The real issue is when there is training going on, you sometimes are forced into 1A without curtain. If that happens we get 2 breaks and will split who gets 1A. Without the curtain, I can't sleep.
Ya, I've been reading about the same stuff. Pretty interesting/scary stuff. You many be onto something with 717 style flying. You also get the added benefit of generally less flight time at higher altitudes which means less radiation exposure. Not sure of the health ramifications of multiple up/downs in a day. It could be especially nice if you live in base and bid reserve or drop your schedule and pick up nice 2 leg, 1-days. I love the 330 and this summer has been especially nice with an incredible amount of time off, but if I could drop everything and do 1 day out-and-backs, I jump on that opportunity.
(IMO) Hard work is good for you but according to the linked Harvard article "Data from three large cross-sectional epidemiological studies reveal that sleeping five hours or less per night increased mortality risk from all causes by roughly 15 percent."
I've listened to podcasts with sleep experts who paint a more dire picture than 15%.

AFAIK the work on radiation is all preliminary but I'd bet a beer that once the science is done, the results will be pretty significant. I come home from bid package 717 trips completely drained, I don't understand how older captains bid and then fly their bid package line. I'm junior in category so I sit RES exclusively and my block time is a lot less than junior line holders who can't dump their schedules and fly broken trips. Not knowing my schedule is a drag but I knew what I was getting into when I bid my seat.
