DPE/Delta pilot

I don't know what DPE is but, after bankruptcy, I flew on a per diem basis for a corporate outfit based out of Seattle. I got permission from the SVP of Flt Ops. As long as it didn't interfere with my Delta flying, they were fine with it. I had to make sure I didn't run into any FAR problems. Which wasn't a problem. I stopped doing it about 5 years ago.

I suspect you would need to submit an “authorization for outside flying” request form. Sorry, no access to the FOM right now, but Delta wants to review any proposed compensated flying or any work that could be a conflict of interest. With mainline, Connection and Delta Private Jets under the umbrella of our organization, it’s not a big stretch to find a reason to say “no.” Not trying to dissuade you in any way, but do adhere to company policy and if denied, call ALPA. I was denied a request to do sim instruction while on a medical leave. A verbatim read of the FOM suggested that I did not need to seek approval, since running a sim is quite literally not outside flying. But a base Chief Pilot said I should submit one anyhow. I did not concur with his policy interpretation, but I complied in order to honor his guidance. Even though my service at a 142 school teaching BBJ crews initial and recurrent and random type rating candidates would be tough to argue as having any competitive impact on Delta or in any way take away from my dedication to Delta, but request denied. ALPA told me to press on and advised Delta they were wrong to deny me. Did the job as I wished, which probably allowed me to be competent enough to succeed in IQ training when I came back from disability. My friend asked to fly a real airplane (variant of his Delta jet) on the outside while actively flying for Delta and was approved. It could have been argued that his routine training at Delta helped the corporate operator he moonlighted for. But he got an approval on the first try. My point is “you just never know,” but as with all matters Delta, it’s best to be forthright and see where that leads you.

As someone stated you have to get permission per the FOM and unless it's military of part 91 then you have to report it for FAR reasons.
