Trip mix at Delta
Typically what kindof trip mix does Delta have on its domestic fleet?
ATL would eventually be my base of choice if hired by DAL. Do you guys have the opportunity to do split duty, 1 day, & 2 day trips as opposed to longer 3 & 4 days? TIA |

No split duty, standups, high speeds or CDOs here :)
Plenty of redeyes though  |
If you’re junior, you get a lot of 1-2 day trips in the commuter bases and 4-5 day trips in the non-commuter bases. Invert the opportunity the more senior you get.

I’m an ATL 320B commuter. I’m roughly 70% seniority. I bid mainly 4-5 day trips and usually always get them. An occasional 3 day finds its way on there sometimes. 1-2 day trips go senior and I only get one by picking one up off the swap board that matches the front or back end of one of my trips. I bid for 30 hour overnights because I like staying in bed all day in my underwear and getting paid for it. I usually always get at least one 30 hour.

I was DTW based on the 737 and I got to about 20% from the top in category before I moved to a widebody. At 20%, I could still not hold day trips with any regularity. I might get one on a weekend here and there, but not often. 1 day trips go pretty senior, because they are often well paid turns, at least on the 737.

Delta is definitely not the airline to come to if you want to be home every night. Day trips are a rarity and typically go senior. And even if you're senior in base it would be hard to guarantee all day trips.

Domestic the trip mix is a crapshoot from month to month. From turns to 5 days.
Its probably marginally better international. The software yield metric drives the bid package. If you want to do the same trip month in and month out...forgettaboutit. |
