Thanks Southwest

There we were landing at DAL and I'd like to offer Southwest a thank you for once again helping to keep Delta operationally on schedule. I mean after all, who would ever plan to land a few minutes early, only to sit 25 minutes on the taxiway....ONCE AGAIN, waiting for Southwest to get off gate 15. Their amazing, yet slightly annoying, prowess at keeping us on time EVERYDAY is very much appreciated.

I know if another airline was waiting for my gate, I surely wouldn't be in a rush to push for their on-time.

Burton78 05-16-2019 03:58 PM

Oh the irony.

You know, those AS gates sit unoccupied an awful lot. Perhaps DL would be better served to share with them? [emoji3]

If it makes you feel any better, we have to wait that long for our own gates at DAL too. It isn’t personal. Well maybe a little bit.

Delta2heavy 05-16-2019 06:47 PM

I would also like to thank southwest for the overhead panel on the 737

80ktsClamp 05-16-2019 11:32 PM

I’m far more insulted by the closing of Potbelly in MDW. Seriously?!?

sailingfun 05-17-2019 02:42 AM

If waiting for a gate bothers you don’t fly into JFK this summer in the afternoon.

1. Avoid all landings including DH into MDW.

I’ve got to laugh at your kind as I see it in SWA cockpits, too. Not sure why you go to work but I go to work to make $$$ and last I checked we get paid by the minute.

As was mentioned above, it’s not personal as we have to wait on gates as well. Sit back, crack a cold one, and take comfort in the fact that you’ll be able to afford cheese on your burgers next month thanks to the overage pay. Geeeeez....

CX500T 05-17-2019 06:59 AM

Rarely do I make one cent fir holding out 30 mins.

Often I miss a commute home though.

Granted my sample size of one NYC 7ERB isn't the whole system, but usually we are well under scheduled block time, and get paid for scheduled time.

SWA does not get paid by the minute...just saying.

BobZ 05-17-2019 08:27 AM

Does swa still pay minutes under?

Yes it does. Over-block is one of the things that our pay computation looks at. The other one is how many 243 NM segments are covered in that particular leg. Then there’s daily and trip rig to factor in.

So yes, we are paid by the minute as “overfly” is considered. Unfortunately, it’s only after five minutes of overfly/over-block that this kicks in. Over-block by four minutes and there is no extra. Over-block by seven minutes and you get the extra seven minutes.

Let’s hope the first four minutes of overfly for free gets fixed in the next contract.

I’d like to thank SWA for treating jump seaters and ID travelers like actual human beings. Sadly, my family and I are treated a lot better with you guys than on my own company flights.

I’ll second that. Always treated like gold JSing.

SWA took care of me every time. While I am glad I don't have to commute two legs with them anymore, i do miss them. They are good people.

But now i know why you taxi so fast, to make up for the rampies. :)

n9810f 05-17-2019 08:42 PM

So Richard...and NWA.

What? You wouldn’t rather pay twice as much for a personal pizza that tastes terrible?
Thanks, Chicago politicians!

The closing of Potbelly's is pretty much what lead me to became a foodbag hauling Sherpa.

at6d 05-18-2019 01:27 PM

Potbellies closes.

Raul Emanuel is now out of office.

See?

Third, rode them home many times. Always awesome. Watched the national championship on my commute home two years ago on their new steaming tv on personal devices.
