Speaking of pistons, there is non-stationary isochoric-isobaric combined cycle turbofan. This engine doesn't scale though, but you could easily get a 60% reduction in fuel burn for the 76 seaters.

Are you an aerospace engineer, or just a fan of the “fans”?

Anyone hear the rumor that there is a buyer interested in our MD90’s? Rumor states they just want the engines. Source is just random line guys chatting, something like this could really accelerate the demise of the mad dog.

That’s been going around since that article about the 90s going away was published. Was also told we are retiring a few 90s this summer in addition to the 88s, which I thought we weren’t retiring 90s until AFTER the 88s. Would be nice to hear more about this from the company.

88/90 chief line check pilot put out a message on skynet this week that said 5 90s and 12 88s going away this summer.

There was talk about temporarily parking some 90's to save time on the engines until the 88's were gone, when they would be brought back. Anyone know if that's still part of the calculus?
