Who knows what will happen if the retirement wave ever actually shows up.

Thanks for the response. Yeah retirement in the future will definitely change things up.

With mandatory retirements, it's pretty easy to calculate your ballpark seniority over the coming years. NB captain can be held at nearly all bases/fleets at around 55-60% (8k-8.5k) system seniority level, with many jr CA spots up into the 70% range (10.5k). What that'd mean to a newbie is you'll need 4k-6k retirements. At the rate of mandatory retirements, 70% will be reached in 2025, 60% in 2028. With unplanned retirements, maybe a year earlier. This assumes the pilot group size stays static at 14.5k.
Stop listening to how many years it took for a current CA. That's what it was for their DOH, not yours.

Look Sailing....I have just as much right to be unhappy and complain even though I made captain at the 2 year point.....as you do to be happy......how dare you question my unhappiness!!!!!

I fly with plenty of captains who have been here 20ish years and they can barely hold a decent line in ATL. There have been retirements, but it seems like the top of the seniority list has been pretty static. It does look like that’s finally changing, with over 500 777/350/330/765 CAs currently 62 or older.
