I’ve heard people say we are buying spirit. Literally nobody said we were making a deal with LATAM until it happened. Rumors are garbage, top men are uninformed, and the NYC mid hotel was great.

Also why not take their 787s if that's what we really want?

I understood we are getting our 350's from the LATAM Brasil branch of the group. LATAM Brasil doesn't have 787's.
I know LATAM Chile and LATAM Peru have 787's in their fleets, but does the LATAM group own enough of those subsidaries they could give them to us or do the countries of Chile/Peru have a say?

LATAM wanted out of the A350 deal. I suspect taking the A350’s was a significant part of swaying them to dump American. I am not sure we really wanted them however we wanted the overall deal enough to take them.

Maybe I don't understand how the deal with the LATAM group works. I know there are several subsidiary airlines such as LATAM Brasil, LATAM Chile, LATAM Argentina, etc. I thought the LATAM group had varying levels of minority/majority ownership in the those airlines.

Think of it like how AA owns 3 regional airlines, and all their jets. Those regionals really own nothing, they are subsidiaries, and AA can move their jets any which way between them or sell them outeight.
