GSs definitely reduce your ability to Drop manipulate your schedule after the first PCS run. On the other hand as a very Junior Capt two summers ago and at around 65% this summer I was able to get over 30 days off in a row over July to August both years.

Our vacation value lags the industry for sure but our flexibility with IVDs, APDs, vacation slide, move ups and the swap board is pretty good.

Oh yeah, I totally miss the GS fest every summer but it's worth it.

Now that you say it, voice to text would have saved my thumbs. Good call

When we are so short that GS ramp up you definitely lose a lot of your ability to drop and manipulate your schedule after the first PCS run. It doesn’t matter if either side listens or not...we, as pilots, have no control over staffing, beyond the numbers in our contract. I was frustrated this summer too. I would love to be able to move trips around and have some flexibility with my schedule. But the 4th floor is going to do what they think is best/most profitable, and they don’t call DALPA or any of us for permission.

This is true. Im not usually a GS prostitute, but I know many who are. And good on them. I harbor no animous. As they say, "don't hate the player, hate the game." I know I was able to drop a trip or two this summer due to blue reserve numbers, but holy cow! Paying 40,000 GS seems like it would be cheaper to staff a little better. I could be wrong. My elevator never reaches the 4th floor.

The problem is they would need to carry a surplus all the time to avoid a situation like this summer. No one was planning on 400 parked 737’s. Management believes that we will keep most of the market share we gained as a result. If that proves to be the case those greenslips will turn out to be one of the best values ever for Delta.

Does FedEx carry a surplus outside of Peak?

No idea, I do know they don’t carry people. I also know if Delta carried that kind of surplus this forum would be screaming with pilots complaining about their 65 hour lines 8 months out of the year with zero ability to drop trips because there would be nothing available to pick up.
Secondary screams would come at PS payouts!

Funny how people want ‘hate’ on GSers, yet there are WAY more guys using swap w/ pot and swap board to go above ALV+15 as much as possible

I think this is a pendulum, it swings this way a little bit, in 3 yrs no one will know what a GS is or how to get into arcos. At least I hope I'm right... Otherwise, jeesh
I disagree with this statement. Most guys are greedy and have no intention of going early. Just met one of the 350 captains who made $1 million in 2018. He stayed to the absolute end even though he made $1 million at 63 years old in one year. He made nowhere near that laat year. I'm on the 737 in Atlanta. Most guys I fly with are over 60. The majority have no intention what-so-ever of leaving early and most of them fly to the max. They will work 30 days a month if they could.

Our pilot group has spoken through actions. We will fight over any and every green slip. QOL is not important to the majority, only money.
