I suspect these two aircraft were originally leased for WOW. I also suspect Delta got a very good deal on the aircraft. The A330-900 is not selling well. It’s leasing even worse.

Basically the Neos were late to the party. Airlines jumped on the 787 for the fuel economy and savings. Neos great airplanes just late to the party. On the plus side should make for great acquisition costs for Delta.

Hopefully the late arrival will result in less bugs initially, i.e. battery fires.

With the GTF widebody engines hitting the market in the next five years, I wonder what the viability of the plastic planes will be then. An Ultrafan A330 would have more than 9,000nm of range.

Given all the issues RR has with the Trent 1000, I wouldn't be holding my breath for the Ultrafan.

They already had to move the engines forward and up to get enough ground clearance on the NEO. I doubt there is more ground clearance to be had unless it’s a major redesign.

As an aside all widebodies are selling poorly right now. Probably a good time to be shopping!
