The upcoming MOAB will be bypass heaven. Hundreds.

You mentioned there will be no way the company can handle upcoming training requirements but this could be a powerful tool for the company in that regard. The training bypass is one way for the company to greatly minimize the churn. I have no idea how many training events these bypass eliminate but I am sure it’s a lot.

Could this be one of the ways the company plans on handling the massive training requirements that are forthcoming?

For that matter why not just codify this in the PWA as a win-win for both the company and the Pilots? Let’s say for instance any Pilot within three years of mandatory retirement is pay protected on anything they can hold but they are locked on their current equipment for those three years.

This could greatly minimize training for the company and boost Pilot wages for many Pilots in their final years. I am not sure if the company would go for it since they can pick and choose exactly who they bypass anyway but my guess is it will probably be pretty close to how they actually navigate this issue in any case.

Just a couple of things to think about.

So here’s a question for any contract wonks out there: how do you get bypassed when you can’t even hold the bid? The most junior 350A not bypassed was 23xx; there was a 24xx and 25xx bypassed on this bid. Good for them for sure, but doesn’t make much sense to me.

Bypassing saves the company money by not having sooooo many possible future training events. I like your idea but I don’t think they can exactly choose who to bypass and who not too. My seniority number is in the 1200’s. If I would have bid the 350 with bypass selected on this bid, not sure if I’d have gotten it with just under 4 years to go. If I didn’t get it then I don’t think Pilots junior to me, no matter how old they are, could have gotten it either. At least that’s my understanding.

Maybe they didn’t put in to be bypassed.

Edit. Disregard. I see what you mean.

Whether they get bypassed or not is based on their age (retirement date), not seniority.

Edit: nevermind, I see what you're saying and I have no idea.

OK, poor verbiage on my part. I should have said currently they can try to micromanage the bypasses. The issue you bring up is another reason why the company might be interested in the above proposal.

Hey I like it! Saves the angst of bidding and possibly having to go to training! (With my current lack of brain cell capacity!)

I agree. This is their solution. Maybe Sailing has been right all along. It will be expensive.

They will still be very busy.
