Some places it can take a while for them to catch on.

And don't cancel it, change it to the next day and come back. And then change it, and come back, etc., etc., etc.

Update. Can’t buy $400 GC with 8 $50 GCs. 2018 I used the $200 credit to buy single day sky club passes and gave them as a gift, but they’ve discontinued the single day passes. In flight snacks and baggage fees are all this credit is good for. The Chase sapphire reserve doesn’t discriminate....$200 in “travel related charges” automatically get credited.

I never believed friends that told me about it, but for no reason other than I didn’t discover this theoretical loop hole. Is this real?

Ritz-Carlton is owned by Marriott. If you have the Ritz-Carlton card any charges using the card, room or otherwise, will get you Marriott points. The card is no longer available to new applicants.

Another gift card hack: a couple years ago my wife wanted fancy new cookware for Christmas. Bed Bath & Beyond was where she wanted to get it because she had a big coupon.
(I have a habit to calling things by different names to mess with her. Bed Bath & Beyond is Best Buy & Beyond. Drives her crazy, which is why I continue to do it!)
She went into Kroger to buy gift cards on our 2.5% cash back card and get a veritable crap ton of fuel points. Walked out with $1500 in Best Buy gift card. Neither of was was happy, jokes on me now, right?
Well, it was until we realized Best Buy sells gift cards. So I got $1500 with of Bed Bath & Beyond gift cards from Best Buy. And because I bought over $1000 in gift cards from Best Buy, I was given a free $75 gift card from them!
We still laugh about it.
For the super couponing copper wire inventors among us, might want took into that hack if you still have shopping to do this Christmas.

Gift card rolling is a great tactic but many stores are clamping down on it. Target and eBay are two I know of who have changed their policies within the last year or so. Make sure you research before trying again because it’s easy to get burned.

Long time Amex user here. Looking to update my lounge jacket. Would the Delta zip up jacket sold by Crew Outfitters be too ambitious?

I think that would show up as a Crew Outfitters and not Delta, so it wouldn't be reimbursed if that's what you are asking.

I’m sorry I should have phrased this better...An acceptable jacket to wear in the sky lounge? Or since it says Delta on it it might be a little too ambitious....

Great if you like taking drink orders.

It's a nice looking North Face jacket, nice enough to wear in the lounge.

At best, anyone looking at you is gunna think you're oddly fond of an airline. More likely they'll conclude you're an employee.

So if you're looking for incognito, Delta branded apparel probably ain't the way to go.

I see lots of medallion status luggage tags and a few Delta labeled carry on bags in the lounge. My father-in-law is a United fan and would wear a United windbreaker if they gave him one. Lots of passengers display their airline swag to show other passengers that they travel a lot. These same people also let gate agents and FAs know hoe many miles they have whenever they talk also. Wearing a Delta windbreaker will probably make you look MORE like a passenger.

I use my Amex benefit to go in there a lot. Crew members generally stick out like a sore thumb. Uniform with hastily thrown on pullover, Luggageworks bag with hat stuffed in the handle, and hoarding plates of food and cookies "to go".
I had the greeter actually thank me for changing shirts (wore a polo) one day since he saw my luggage and knew i was Crew.
You want to go incognito in a lounge? Buy new luggage and completely change your outfit. Get a Bluetooth headset and make some calls, yelling so that you are sure everyone in there knows how important you are. Otherwise, just lay low in the corner like the rest of us.

Don't forget to cut in the food line with those things on and pretend no one else exists or matters. Except for that important phone call you're on.

Reviving this thread. Small topic on the current landscape BUT anyone asking relief from Amex on the $550 fee or just dumping them #baloney19.

Been a customer for 4 years but haven’t used my card for 6-8 months with #baloney19. Doesn’t seem right to pay the fee for services I can’t even use.

I called the loyalty division and they gave me a $500 statement credit. I use my card for all my purchases so I’m a very active member. YMMV.

Wolf424 05-05-2020 07:07 PM

For personal platinum cards, they just started offering a $20 per month statement credit for cell phone service and a $20 per month statement credit for streaming services until the end of the year.

Adding in the Uber / Uber Eats credits and Saks... I'm still happy with the card.

People are saying it’s the best deal ever negotiated.

I went in as a low energy person, and got a pathetic, disgusting deal. But then I realized, I'm a phenomenal, big league guy. A lot of people were saying, and everybody was talking about it, that's just what I heard. And believe me, I must tell you, to be perfectly honest, the women, the Latinos, totally think I got a fabulous deal.

Fly confirmed for less

Anyone know if using the AMEX platinum will qualify for the $200 statement credit when purchasing fly confirmed for less tickets?

Thanks

99% sure they won’t. They don’t work on normal airfare. They no longer work with gift cards. It’s something with how the fees are coded in the purchasing process.

crzepilot 10-18-2021 12:01 PM

Fine print

I think the $200 airline fee statement credit changed in recent years. I dug into the fine print and it is now only for “incidentals,” such as inflight meal purchases, bag charges etc… I still bought the ticket.

AlphaBeta 10-18-2021 03:03 PM

It does not work for the ticket, but once you buy the ticket it works for upgrades. At least it did for me. Upgrade both seats right afterwards to comfort plus for 20 a piece. Refunded me the next week.

interceptorpilo 10-19-2021 04:27 AM

Just looked on the AMEX site and did not see the Delta lounge privileges. Did that go away?

Scoop 10-19-2021 04:29 AM

The AMEX platinum still works for the Skyclub. You can get in with the card and a boarding pass or the card and a seat request. I also have used the fee credit to buy my wife a one day pass when we travel.
