A350’s LATAM info

We had a 10-day trip JFK/DKR/CPT and back. This was 08-09 timeframe back when we were going to take over Africa and DKR was partytown. 48hr layovers with the same crew.
It was an absolute blast!

The A350 just can’t go anywhere. It needs the right route. I’m pretty sure we will see them go south to service the new agreement. I could be wrong. But I also don’t claim to be a pilot know it all. I’ll let the people figure out where to put them. They seem to be doing a great job in doing just that. I’ll stick to flying them. So far I’ve done an excellent job doing just that.
It's a great airplane. I'll take them all day long over 787s.

It won’t make LA-Sidney. They thought it would.

I hear this a lot. Was the A350 sold to Delta under the impression it would? I honestly don’t know. If it was, that’s on Airbus. If it was never promised that it could but our management bought it thinking it would, that’s on us.

Don’t know. Email Ed. He might know. I just fly ‘em.

I've only ever heard this come from line pilots.
Like the other response said, the 900 is supposed to be competing with the 777ER, which also cannot do LA-Sidney. The 1000 is supposed to be the competitor to the 777LR, which can, and we don't have any of those (although some of those LATAM orders are for 1000s so it's possible we end up with some, but they could also be converted to 900s).
I could see number crunchers thinking they might be able to make it work on that route, but the aircraft speck equivalent doesn't seem to promise it.

And Qantas hasn't actually placed an order, they have just said they will. Sounds minor but airlines say all sorts of stuff. I bet it's based on Airbus actually promising the extra range can be added.
