He said it was to even out the future retirements/hiring. Not sure if Delta looks that far in the future but it seems logical to me. It could also be because they don’t have to pay the higher pay scales for as long. Obviously wouldn’t take a whole bunch of stock in it but might give the older guys a little hope.

Erroneous erroneous on all counts. Other than 65 (top end) age cannot be a factor in the hiring of someone. Late 30s is usually around the mean age hired because when you take other factors to get to a tier 1 status it takes awhile in life. Not true for all new hires but it’s prob where the 40 rumor comes from.

I recently pulled the age of everyone hired since 2014. It's a standard bell curve that peaks at 37 years old, with a min of 24 and a max of 59. There is a small upward bump at the age of 42-43, which makes sense since there are a lot of guys at this age retiring from the military.

So if I squeeze the trigger on an application this week how long is the wait for some sort of sign? Early fifties, 4,900 tt, over 3,000 turbine and two type ratings.

It's really hard to say. If you search, there are is a lot of anecdotal evidence on here. Some folks seem to get a call not earlier than about 30-45 days after hitting submit, some have an app sitting for years. Several months' wait would not be out of the norm at all. If you have a contact that can give you an 'internal rec', that supposedly guarantees your app gets reviewed & scored within 30 days - but if successful, that also only gets your app put in the "to be called" pile, which could easily be several more months, or even many more months depending on the rate of hiring vs. size of "the pile". If you get a "fix it" email, that really only means they've reviewed it, it could go either way after that time-wise.
Good Luck.

Mil or Civilian? 121 experience? Are your totals cumulative, as in nearly 8,000 total time?

Thanks for the info. All corporate part 91, the total time is 4,900. I do have a few internal rec’s though.

Prob never. I wish I were joking. I know of 1(ONE) part 91 corporate pilot that has received an interview since 2014. He was not hired. With that said, good luck. Could be two weeks, could be ten years.
