Default Using an S2 when traveling with a buddy?

Non reving international with a buddy. Will be close but might get a Delta one seat if I use an S2 pass. I know buddies don’t get s2s but might use one for myself if needed.

if I list them at the same time as me will that prevent me from using an S2 if that becomes necessary to get the upgrade?

if they are on your record locator number you move down to S4. If separate locator numbers then it is like you aren’t traveling together.

And it doesn’t benefit the buddy at all if they are traveling on the same record locator? If so then I’ll list separately.

Yes it will prevent you from using a S2. If you list on the same PNR so you will clear together it downgrades to the lowest priority for everyone on that listing. You will be a S4. A good agent can split the PNR at the gate and switch you to a S2 but don’t count on it right before departure. Do not under any circumstances try and cancel the listing and rebook separately. If it’s less than 75 minutes to departure you will not be going at all. The best option is two different listings. Don’t try and tell the agent you’re only going if your S4 friend gets on. Just wait and see if he clears also.
