Live Event with Senior VP cancelled

Anyone else have a problem with this? Not that I was going to watch it, but an event where he was going to talk about our plans for 2020 and answer questions is abruptly cancelled? Now we get a micrew brief...

Seen this a lot in my time. (Conspiracy theory alert).

Not at all. You have to admit, the timing is bad. The virus situation continues to unfold, and we are probably looking at cancelling all flights to China in the very near future (my opinion). We have several crews there right now, and bringing them back could be more involved than just flying the jet. The VP in question is probably very busy with that today. As an aside, I don't think the bid will be affected, they need the training slots to be filled now, even with the cancellations. This could be their saving grace for the coming summer crunch, because everything I've heard, they don't have a viable plan for the added flying besides pilot pushing. Having some extra airframes to soak up demand (it exceeds our capacity), might be just what they need. To discuss network plans today would just be a waste of time, as obviously Asia is in question for at least a few months.

I guess I don’t agree. Open comms mean you communicate even when the time isn’t right. I don’t know is an acceptable communication sometimes. I Find it disappointing to say the least. How about cancelling and using a paragraph similar to what you just wrote? It’s all smoke and mirrors.

Perhaps this is the reason:

Delta to temporarily suspend all U.S.-China flying
https://news.delta.com/delta-tempora...s-china-flying

He's probably a little busy.

Yup, that was a fail. What information were you hoping to glean from the briefing? I recently met with some head shed people informally, asked a few questions. Maybe I can answer.

Fail? I think my prediction came true. Something was going on. My point was I’m disappointed at the lack of open communication when times aren’t good.

I think you'll be hearing something soon. In a day or two, maybe.

More for humor than a statement.

This might take precedence over a skyhub briefing and q&a with employees. I wonder what the most discussed topic would be?

The same way we handle an emergency. Fly the airplane first, then communicate. They are managing the company first. Then they’ll communicate.

I dont think you can blame this all on the Chinese. The Chinese last week said it could spread when the person is asymptomatic and everyone in the US said BS you dont know what you are talking about. I think part of it is our government is trying to downplay it so there isn't a mass panic.

So suspend China flights and then what? 350s get turned to Europe or Orlando turns?

I wonder how many flights is this over 2 months?
