I would take what you hear from BB with a grain of salt. Just my experience.

This prediction is too vague. I predict that Delta will furlough 2,274 pilots starting 10/1/2020 and they will all be called back by 03/31/2022. And before it's over, they will bring back patent leather go-go boots and mini skirts for the flight attendants and crews will go back to carrying the big, plastic luggage without the wheels instead of rollerbags.

Absolutely. Furloughs go out in inverse seniority order and recalls are done in seniority order. The most senior furloughees are out for the least amount of time. The most junior is out for the longest.

An OAL friend of mine (pre-9/11) said when he was in class for his legacy dream job they had someone with a make work job come to class and inspect your intended luggage/flight kit/etc and if it wasn't up to their standards they'd "recommended" some expensive replacement. When he started to ojbect he was told to shut up and color because this was the "last job you'll ever have" and "you'll retire a millionaire" and all that so zip it and buy whatever they recommended. And he did just that. And was furloughed shortly thereafter for quite a while.

I did. I haven’t been around that long but I’ve seen enough 121 rah rah BS to know it’s all the same. They all say the same thing.

Why? Because a jaded JetBlue pilot started this thread to poke the bear and watch in glee as Delta pilots feared about their futures and their family’s financial well-being. And look, 101 pages of it. Hook, line, and sinker.

He’s changed his tune. He told us we would hire around 1K/year, but not indefinitely because around 2020 or so, there would be an unbelievable overreaction to a pandemic and that the government would shut down the economy to save some septuagenarians from dying a year early. Everyone murmured in agreement because let’s face it, if you didn’t see this turn of events coming you are oblivious to the most basic principles of professional aviation.

Seriously though, he wasn’t lying when he gave you those numbers. And to imply that you knew better in anything other than “nothing lasts forever” terms is as believable as Kim Jong Un’s golf handicap.
