BEIJING (Reuters) - China’s Wuhan city, ground zero of the new coronavirus outbreak, reported five new cases on Friday, the second day in a row the tally has been less than 10, while no locally transmitted infections were reported in the rest of the country.

Wuhan, capital of central Hubei province, registered the five new cases on Thursday, the National Health Commission said, down from eight cases the previous day. The commission routinely reports new cases the day after the data is collected.

Excluding Wuhan, Hubei has reported no new infections for eight consecutive days.

The commission said on Thursday China’s coronavirus epidemic had passed its peak, even as alarm over the virus intensified elsewhere with global markets suffering record falls and governments unveiling measures to try to slow the spread of a disease that has infected more than 127,000 people worldwide.

The financial hub of Shanghai reported two new cases, while Beijing saw one, all imported by people traveling to China from affected areas abroad, the health authority said.

Those cases brought the total number of new infections in mainland China to eight on Thursday, down from 15 the previous day, and the lowest since the healthy authority started publishing nationwide figures in January.

This doesn't mean it's over in China. It means a month long nationwide quarantine was effective. This does not mean, that as everyone goes out and about that there won't be a resurgence of cases all over again. The world will be watching and waiting. If it comes back hot and heavy again, galactic yikes!

A question that we can't answer that may cause a resurgence: has the whole population been exposed?
The quarantine may have kept a great number of people unexposed, in which case a resurgence is possible. (likely?)

Another interesting thing I read on one of the CDC pages:
"More cases of COVID-19 are likely to be identified in the United States in the coming days, including more instances of community spread. CDC expects that widespread transmission of COVID-19 in the United States will occur. In the coming months, most of the U.S. population will be exposed to this virus."
(Bold is mine)

Default Vaccine looks Promising

For all you doom porners and TP Hoarders out there; appears vaccine could be available in ~90days. Whether the FDA allows in this condensed timeline is unknown.

GRI (Galilee Research Institute)has been working on an IBV vaccine for over 4 years. This has been adapted for the CV. From Dr Katz of MIGAL;

"After 4 years of multi-disciplinary research funded by Israel’s Ministry of Science and Technology in cooperation with Israel’s Ministry of Agriculture, MIGAL has achieved a scientific breakthrough that will lead to the rapid creation of a vaccine against Coronavirus. This possibility was identified as a by-product of MIGAL’s development of a vaccine against IBV (Infectious Bronchitis Virus), a disease affecting poultry, whose effectiveness has been proven in pre-clinical trials carried out at the Volcani Institute. MIGAL has now made required genetic adjustments to adapt the vaccine to COVID-19, the human strain of coronavirus, and is working to achieve the safety approvals that will enable in-vivo testing, enable the initiation of production of a vaccine to counter the Coronavirus epidemic"

"scientific framework for the vaccine is based on a new protein expression vector, which forms and secretes a chimeric soluble protein that delivers the viral antigen into mucosal tissues by self-activated endocytosis, causing the body to form antibodies against the virus.”

Greffex in Texas is also closing in on a vaccine. Ready to start animal trials and phase 1 human testing. Long way to go for them as they have to run the whole FDA protocol. Which takes 18-24 months minimum.

Default 10x Faster Testing from Roche

Roche got expedited approval from FDA for the improvement to their cv19 test. Results now 10x faster.

https://mobile.twitter.com/Roche/status/12383292

"Providing quality, high-volume testing capabilities will allow us to respond effectively to what the World Health Organization has characterized as a pandemic. Over the last weeks, our emergency response teams have been working hard to bring this test to the patients. CE-mark certification and the FDA’s granting of EUA supports our commitment to give more patients access to reliable diagnostics which are crucial to combat this serious disease.”
-Thomas Schinecker, Head of Roche's Diagnostic unit
