Check out these ones:
“War Bandits” Scooter O’Reillys famous P-38 raid on Breakneck Ridge
or:
”Fight with Honor” the account of Skeeter Johnsons flying devils of the infamous 87th attack squadron
also:
“Wild Warriors” the unsung heroes of Jimmy O’Hoolihans Flying bandits of the 58th in the raid on Rabaul.
almost as good:
”Eat Pray Love”, One woman’s search for everything across Italy, India and Indonesia.

I'm not sure this has been mentioned yet.
I'm in the middle of "Carrying the Fire," by Michael Collins. That astronaut could write. And it's the perfect amount of technical jargon for airline pilots.
An absolute masterpiece.

The best astronaut bio ever written. Also recommend, "Riding Rockets" by shuttle astronaut Mike Mullane. Very funny guy.

I just finished a 3 book trilogy called “Undaunted Valor” about Helicopter pilots in Vietnam. They were all available on kindle unlimited for free and a very good read. Man, those guys had guts. And during certain times, they were flying up to 160 hours a month flying resupply missions and combat assaults under heavy enemy fire. Highly recommend the series if you’re into war history and helicopter flying.

There have been quite a few. “The Last Kingdom”, and at the top of the page, someone mentioned “Eat, Pray, Love”. Not my cup of tea but it might be right up your alley. Why don’t you start there. Do you and Oooff ever have anything positive to add to any of these pages or do you just like to nag? Read the thread. You’ll find plenty of recommendations that don’t have any aviation or military topics. But that’s not what you’re looking for anyway, Amirite?

If you really want what is probably the all-time best mix of history and literature, nothing beats Gibbon's "Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire." This can be a cathartic experience for some.
