Thanks for the "Nuclear War, A Scenario" recommendation.
I would guess you have Ellsberg's "The Doomsday Machine" on your shelves?

It is curious what we humans become accustomed to living alongside with.

Yes. It’s excellent. Delighted to see someone else has read it.

Here’s the current DBRx (declared) nuclear (book) stockpile.

(“Command and Control” was made into a PBS American Experience documentary. It’s pretty good)

Vipers in the Storm: Diary of a Gulf War Fighter Pilot by Keith Rosenkranz

That name might look familiar to you as he was the guy who recently chartered a 330 for his retirement flight. The book was mentioned in another thread, but somehow I didn't find it on this list of good reads. Quick easy read about his career in the Air Force leading up to and thru Desert Storm. As I was only 11 at the time, this gave context to my oversimplified understanding of the entire ordeal.

On a related note, thank you for all the book reccomendations. I find this thread the most useful by far on APC.

The Rational Bible series by Dennis Prager.

Prager is known as a radio commentator but he is a Hebrew scholar.

He is not really a scholar, which usually requires an academic doctorate. The Bible Unearthed by Israel Finkelstein, Who Wrote the Bible by Richard Freidman, and Jesus: A Revolutionary Biography by John Dominic Crossan are excellent introductory texts for a scholarly view of the bible and its protagonists.

"Bright Shining Lie - John Paul Vann and America in Viet Nam" - Amazon link (What an incredible story. JP Vann awarded Presidential Medal of Freedom, posthumously)

"First Man: The Life of Neil A. Armstrong" - movie with R. Gosling based on this. Wow. Amazon Link

"Nuclear War, A Scenario" - I've several books on this subject in the library (and growing); easy read, seems relevant. Read it in an afternoon. Amazon Link

(Reminder: Unless it's brand new, shop around. I find the best places to purchase older books online is ebay, but not always. Amazon links above are for curiosity sake.)

Just finished Nuclear War A Scenario…..biggest takeaway? Be as close as possible to where it goes off.

A second for this one… Well researched and thought out, with perhaps a few assumptions. Couldn’t put it down.

The Bomber Mafia by Malcolm Gladwell.

Good sensationalized take on WWII Japan bombings but not great for an accurate history lesson.

Theres been multiple accounts of Gladwell NOT being accurate on history.

Call sign CHAOS.
Book about the life of General Mattis from childhood to being in the WH. Really enjoyed this book.

Zen and the art of motorcycle maintenance.
Explores the meaning of quality through a motorcycle road trip. It challenges the idea of objective reasoning and encourages introspection and appreciation for the complexity of life.
