I wonder why they are keeping the A330-200’s. If there is only 15, it would seem smarter to park them and only have 4 airframes instead of 5.

Doubling down no doubt. Hey a "V shaped" recovery is right around the corner. Our MEC Chair said so, along with a strange hockey analogy, so it must be true. 1200 initial training events to replace guys retiring from categories which currently have almost no flying, Not likely, especially considering they just cancelled a large AE. And if we truly do have a miraculous recovery (not likely any time soon) I think a maxed out training department will be a great problem to have.

I will be ecstatic to be wrong.

There are around 700 group 2 planes (737 and 320) and probably 100 group 4 planes (330,787,777).

The group 1 and 3 categories were the small ones.

For 2 weeks. The sudden evaporation of all new hire training will absorb the vast majority of that, with none in the pipeline for quite some time. FAA relief for currency etc. This one point of discussion is an absolute non event. Its only for 2 weeks.

We'll easily be smaller than that by at least 1000, likely more, at least as far as planning purposes.

With us being at least 1 fleet smaller (likely 2 and possibly 3) in the not too distant future, we will require less pilots even if demand returned to pre-Covid levels instantly. Add in reduced demand for a while even during a recovery and the only concern for our training pipeline logistics will be how many pilots are getting paid in the training bubble. That's about it.

There are a lot of alligators swimming around our boat right now and this isn't one of them.

yep but now they won't have the training churn associated with the 190. many pilots will probably have 1 less training event since you will mostly have people going from group 2 to group 4 with no stop at 3. I imagine there will be little movement between AC of the same group. plus the advantage of keeping 2 fewer training departments running

those are newer airplanes (I think 2010-2015 builds). I wonder if they will find new life as cargo planes soon. I agree getting rid of those would be a low hanging fruit if you could find a buyer, but probably not worth writing off relatively new airplanes.

AA will have only 4 type ratings on property sometime next year. Mgmt constantly *****es about the associated costs of small fleets.

How will the accomplish well over 1200 initial training events?

So, the next 12 months need over 2,400 initials in a shut down training center.

Hmmm

The original push was 50% cut of SLIs. They went 25%, so more cuts are possible. Possibly no DGP work in the interim.

So... yeah figure that out.
