There's lots of hourly workers who support the operation. Even cheap gas isn't "basically free". It costs money to operate an aircraft, outside of gas. There's time sensitive parts and inspections. A skeleton schedule is one thing, but airlines all of the US have been flying normal schedules for almost a week. We're just now getting to the point of winding down to the skeleton schedule.

Yep, scheduling is overwhelmed but lets give them a break. Their job is to get crews into the aircraft which is what they are doing. A lot of what they are doing is inefficien,t but they are putting out the fires as they come to them - they have not had a chance to look out more than a few days and catch up.

I agree that it would be nice to see some guidance come out the fourth floor and they are probably working around the clock to come up with a plan. The May bid package if its not delayed too much might give some hints on at least what the short term plan is.

Pilots: pilot payroll isn’t going to bankrupt the company

also pilots: scheduling is going to bankrupt the company by not managing pilot payroll

Pilots: We will accept a 55-hour SIL, reducing payroll costs for each taker by at least 24%. Of this savings is “insignificant,” then obviously pilot payroll isn’t the problem it’s being made out to be.

Also pilots: Scheduling is putting multiple crews on flights as well as using premium pay options to crew flights that are flying virtually empty while increasing crew exposure, with each occurrence costing the company 200-300% more than required and possibly leading to more sickouts than required.

Yeah, sounds like a dumb argument to me, too.

Scoop
I think the 4th floor directive is to skip any assignment ladder steps necessary to cover the flying. The pay implications are only discovered after a review and who knows how many will actually get pay for all the violations.

Those two thoughts are not mutually exclusive.

A proper IT system is expensive. We're living with the consequences of managers choosing themselves over the business and its 90,000 employees.

i agree. I think they are going to pay more for all these illegal double 23k recovery assignments over march and april than they did on greenslips all last summer.

Agreed. Didn't we also just burn a cool 1 Billion on commander climate carbon offset BS right before this all went down?

that money was pledged to be used over a decade, not spent in one shot. I’d imagine zero dollars actually moved on that project between the announcement and today
