Recency Strategies

No matter what the circumstances are, lessons for some of us are being learned who haven’t gone through the process. Don’t forget to fill out the form is what I learned.

I've sent two emails to Training Scheduling (crickets), called the CPO (call not returned). Got a call from scheduling yesterday but just to modify report time and change a leg of my trip (that I'll be expired for) into a DH. Hearing these other stories, it feels like I'm just creating a paper trail in case someone wants to nail me for something or screw me out of pay. I'm trying to be a good little widget but man are they making that hard to do!

In my case its clear they have no intention of spending any training resources until AE award school

So I've been trying to stay current and avoid going to the sim and going non current or unqualified. Made several calls to CPO(understanding but really no help for getting a trip) and Crew Sked to no avail and then completed the "trip request for recency" template and eventually got an ATL MCO turn from a senior Capt 5 days ago. Now here is where it got "funny" Pos Space DTW ATL, sit for 4 hours and then go to the jet early to find 2 mechanics, a fueler and a 99 degree cockpit. Finally pushed back, taxiied and took off. Cockpit barely cooled down. On TO roll, we get a Generator Drive Eicas msg and of course contiue. Ultimately disconnect the IDG. Autoland in MCO for that currency and taxi to the gate. Stuck with this jet for the ATL return, same 99 degree cockpit until after TO. Uneventful until 6 mile final when we select gear and flaps and the indicator shows a flap asymmetry! So GA and get into the checklist, long story short, it was only the gauge and no adverse characteristics or EICAS messages. Catch the last flight of night back to DTW and call it a day. Got my required 2 TO and LDG and Cat II. Told my F/O, "i probably would have had less stress and abnormals had I gone to the sim!
Oh, and then the VEOP comes out and I've decided to take it.......

He was is the only one I have spoken to that suggested I won’t be paid. Time card shows correct hours.
So perhaps the CP was just wrong, I’ll update my progress as this proceeds.

It seems that "money saving mode" is not translating to sim scheduling. I've been assigned my regularly scheduled CQ training in August. What I don't get is that had the company EITHER applied the FAA's two month recency extension, or simply let me go into my grace month, I would be free to roll right into my Initial of the AC I got displaced to. Has anyone had any luck getting human intervention to look into these nuances? It would be beneficial to all involved, so I assume I'll be told to pound sand, but one never knows.
And for the record, I did bid avoid training during the window.

In the past they would use 10 days past your grace month as the cutoff for when you needed to start IQ on the new airplane by. If that’s the case a phone call to the sim planner might take care of it. Even in the before times they would not want to spend money on CQ if they didn’t have to.
