It was a skynet post where BS replied...I took a screen shot for posterity....his reply was:
"a couple of points. We planned a buffer of 700-800 pilots more than we project required, and we also planned high utilization per aircraft. If early outs exceed this we will adjust the bid, cancel displacements, or post another bid"

So I wanted to let him know who I was.
But beyond that, even as a kid I was never one to do something needlessly foolish just because other kids were saying “are you a chicken? Bok bok bok.”

My beer math is closer to 1,000 early outs before they could potentially start 1 for 1 saving furloughs; purely speculation on my part mind you, and management has changed the goal posts a few times now. However they have said they want ~10,100 active pilots. We have 14,600 total, ~1,000+ are inactive at any given time due to various leaves (I realize it’s a little more than 1,000, just rounding for simple math). So they want to lose ~3,500 pilots total. 2,558 are currently on the chopping block, leaving ~1,000 that they’re hoping take the early out. If more take it, then it will start reducing furloughs. If less take it than anticipated, then they’ll probably start prepping more WARN letters...

That’s fine. I was just writing my view of the current working environment, being on the road. Then Drum had to post that screed about cowardice and what have you.
So I wanted to let him know who I was.

Banzai you seem to be one of the few with some common sense around here. There’s a reason we are only 15% of the workforce and have 43% of the cases at Delta. It’s guys like Drum going to a pub in LA where cases are exploding. Yeah, that’s a great idea. Screw Covid, I’m going to have a good time on my layovers. Brilliant.

I haven't flown for Delta since February, and honestly I don't miss it. The layovers were getting worse in my opinion. Domestic locations and hotels were sliding and the optimizer doesn't give you longer 15-18 hour layovers where you can explore and enjoy. More like 12 and some 10 hours. Internationally the cities have collapsed to the hubs and some are in terrible locations now. LHR is further from the city center (centre) CDG has always had the RIV (not a fan) AMS is fun but a shuttle ride to anything. I never made it to the downtown Seoul and the hotel I've been to is in a designed metropolis like any other modern city. No culture to explore. Still haven't done HND. Narita was fun but gradually got sadder and sadder until it was gone. Until we start getting some more non hub flying, I'm fine with 3 day domestic trips on the 7ER.
