Default 2558

Per the email JL sent out looks like 2558 hostages will be taken to try and extract concessions from the pilot group. As one of those I hope we tell them to pound sand. A no furlough clause didn't help last time and it won't help this time.

Deferred with interest and protected from bankruptcy is what it would take for me to consider it.

Gotta pass the law first.

Wow, hostages is a tough term for where we find ourselves now. We're flying 20% of our schedule now and probably overmanned by about 5K

Again it sucks for anyone getting furloughed but to characterize it as "hostage taking" is a bit harsh.....
Furloughing us is one thing, but using us to get concessions is pretty hostage-y!!

Agreed. I'm one of the 2,558 and I don't feel like a hostage. It's the smart play. Doesn't hurt to send out too many notices, but it too few and they're in a pickle.

If they're willing to kill the MOAB over ALV reductions then it tells me they wanna do it anyway because they realize it was a mistake (duh). If that's the case, call their bluff on the furloughs and ALV reductions. In that scenario, yes they are taking hostages.

i disagree completely. If the company truly needed to save money there have been plenty of voluntary measures available, not to mention other ones that could be taken completely voluntary. They are wanting to walk back the bid, and are trying to extract something from us to do something that they need to do anyways. So they originally asked for a 20% ALV reduction months ago, and rumored 15% ALV reduction a few weeks back, and now JL is saying "well if you give us something we will walk the bid back and not furlough for 2 years". Voluntary measures could far exceed that and they have no interest. So based on that, i'd say using the 2,558 pilots as hostages is a very appropriate assessment.

The bid was a worst-case scenario, not a mistake at all.
